Lana Del Rey’s latest look would have killed on Tumblr.
The singer jetted off to Rome for the Ivor Novello Awards, which honors songwriters and composers. For the occasion (she was honored with the Special International Award) she wore a black-and-white striped Chanel skirt, a black top with a pearl necklace, and black camellia sandals.
The next day, however, Del Rey abandoned the ultra-preppy pleats for something much on the grungier side of the ’90s. She wore a white baby tee embroidered with the phrase, “Send my love down to Baton Rouge,” featuring the Louisiana State University Tigers, which appears to come from the store Shake Your Bon Bon. (We wouldn’t expect anything less from a woman who bought her 2020 Grammys dress at a mall.) Channeling her inner Courtney Love, she paired the T-shirt with a white slip skirt with a lace hemline and added a sweet pair of white Chanel Mary-Janes (though she could up the grunge factor with a pair of Doc Martens, too).
Del Rey accessorized a smattering of jewelry, including diamond drop earrings, a choker, mixed metal bracelets, and a handful of rings. Helping to keep it casual, she swept her hair up into a large top knot.
While we love the look now, we know that this outfit from Lana Del Rey would have done absolute numbers on indie sleaze, Born To Die era Tumblr.
