The glamorous Cannes Film Festival is currently well underway. It may only be day two, but the red carpet has already seen a ton of celebrity cameos from stars such as Lily Gladstone, Eva Green, and Greta Gerwig—all of whom are serving on the official jury this year. While there’s bound to be even more Hollywood star power over the course of the next week, Vogue is also excited to take in the more unexpected breakout stars as well—those who manage to stand out in the Cannes crowd, and come armed with unique fashion statements that rival the A-list.
Yesterday, we got our very first unlikely style serve: It came from a French film producer named Nicolas Seydoux. Attending the premiere of Le Deuxième Acte (The Second Act), Seydoux hit the step and repeat in a bold look that had the crowd (and paparazzi) going wild. Overtop his classic black tuxedo, white button-up shirt, and black bow-tie, the producer sported a whimsical pink cape that was embroidered with sprightly white daisies. It instantly transformed his look from elegant and subtle to eccentric, in the best way possible.
It’s refreshing to see someone like Seydoux break from the norm with their look, especially given that many men at Cannes still adhere to the classic suit-and-tie look. With the addition of his colorful cape, his ensemble commanded attention—rejecting the idea that industry folks need to blend in or adhere to the status quo. Why can’t a producer have their moment in the fashion limelight, just like the leading actors do? After all, the Cannes carpet is essentially a playground—a destination to dress up and be seen—and anyone in attendance should seize the opportunity. Clearly, Seydoux did. And he gets bonus points for his campy poses, too!
