She pulled a Princess Kate.
After a whirlwind Nigeria tour, Meghan Markle appeared to be thinking of home on her final day The Duchess of Sussex has been redefining her royal style on the trip, including stepping out in a zebra print cut-out dress and a white power pantsuit that looked like it belonged on Suits. However, the former actress’s latest outing – a reception in Lagos that she attended with Prince Harry to close out their Nigeria tour – included a recycled dress that was a nostalgic tribute to her son, Prince Archie.
Markle turned heads in a sleeveless summery bright yellow dress, which featured a Greek goddess-esque column design and a flowing fit. The floor-length number had a sweet meaning – it was the same dress she’d worn for her eldest son’s first birthday on May 6, 2020, and considering their tour fell less than a week after Archie’s fifth birthday, it appeared that Markle’s son was on her mind. Instead of pairing the gown with flowing locks like she did before, the star put her dark hair up into a messy updo with face-framing pieces and wore a chunky choker with silver hardware as well as the circular statement earrings she’d worn the day before.
On Sunday, May 12, Prince Harry and the Suits alum were guests of honor at the home of the Governor of Lagos, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, as his wife gave Markle a shawl to drape over her dress once they arrived, per People. The couple reportedly talked about the Invictus Games – which took place in Nigeria for the first time last year – as well as mental health and how they’d enjoyed their first visit to the country.
In a seeming nod to King Charles and Princess Diana’s visit to Nigeria in 1990, it was fitting the couple also closed out their trip in Lagos before heading back home.
