The gown is aptly called the "Windsor."
It’s only been a day and Meghan Markle’s “royal tour” wardrobe has already got the internet talking. And not just because it’s amazingly good (have you seen her zebra cutout dress?), but also due to the fact that one outfit in particular included an unexpected call-out to the royal family.
On Friday, the Duchess of Sussex kicked off her and Prince Harry’s Nigerian tour—the couple’s first official tour since stepping down as working royals in 2020—in a peach-colored maxi dress with a high neck and backless cut from the California-based designer Heidi Merrick. Coincidentally, the gown’s called the “Windsor,” which is also the name of the current British royal family.
Considering the timing (the dress is from the label’s 2018 collection and it’s been four years since she left her home of Windsor Castle), critics are convinced that Markle’s decision to wear the dress now actually wasn’t a coincidence at all, but rather, a snub. “I’m convinced she is doing this on purpose at this point. Infamy is her goal–not approval,” one person tweeted, while another wrote, “They have been trying to erase the Windsors from their lives completely, but here comes Mrs. Sussex wearing a dress called ‘Windsor.'”

A third added, “Done as a snub. DEFINITELY."
Snub or not, there was no denying that Markle looked stylish, pairing the dress with a pair of gold button-shaped Lanvin earrings, a wooden beaded necklace, and a boho twisted-back ponytail with loose, face-framing pieces.
