It was inspired by the “wildest night of [her] life in a garden.”
Kim Kardashian is addressing the speculation around the internet-breaking gray sweater she donned during the 2024 Met Gala. On Monday, March 6, The Kardashians reality star hit up her eleventh Met Gala in a sheer bespoke Maison Margiela gown with an impossibly tight corset—and viewers were quick to notice that Kardashian clutched a gray cardigan to her chest the entire night while posing on the famed steps. Theories were rampant about the reason for the stylistic choice, with many convinced the SKIMS entrepreneur was covering up a wardrobe malfunction on the gown’s bodice due to its placement.
However, speaking with Vogue on the Met Gala carpet, Kardashian shared the (very juicy) inspiration behind the unexpected coverup—because, yes, it was 100% intentional. In a nod to the gala’s theme of “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion,” the star told the publication that the whole outfit was inspired by the aftermath of “the wildest night of my life in a garden.”
“I just ran out and grabbed my boyfriend’s sweater and threw it on and had to get to work,” Kardashian shared. She also revealed that the memory inspired her choice of an undone braid with loose wavy pieces for the Met Gala carpet. “My hair is all messed up.”
The beauty maven didn’t reveal which boyfriend she was referring to, but she was recently linked to football player Odell Beckham Jr. The pair recently called it quits after 7 months together, with sources claiming the relationship “fizzled out.”
While not quite as viral as Kardashian’s gray cardigan, the metallic gown from Maison Margiela she wore also generated a good amount of buzz. The gown featured floral appliques, a sheer skirt, and an extremely waist-cinching corset design that many likened to her Thierry Mugler Met Gala gown from 2019.
