The dramatic skirt needed a whole team to lift it.
After stepping out at last year’s Met Gala in not one but four separate outfits, Cardi B somehow managed to up the ante with a 2024 Met Gala dress that quite literally took over the entire stairway.
For the annual fashion blowout, the “Punteria” rapper made an entrance in a gothic black tulle gown featuring a voluminous skirt that engulfed the gala’s iconic steps, thanks to almost 10,000 feet of delicate organza. The custom strapless design, which was created by Chinese label Windowsen, brought the drama with a massive winged neckline and the most extreme mermaid fit, flaring out into yards of fabric that required its own posse to carry around the venue.
Cardi B posed on the red (or rather, green and white) Met Gala carpet, showcasing the dress’s structured bodice and a flared skirt that was fitted through the thighs and dramatically cascaded out. The gown had an inner and outer layer, according to designer Sensen Lii, and included tufts of organza ruffles to give it extra dimension.
In an exclusive interview with WWD about the gown’s inspiration, Lii said the black color of the dress was meant to represent fertile black soil, a nod to the event’s “Garden of Time” dress code.
“The design is floral, reminiscent of a garden’s trees, flowers, and earth,” he told the publication. The star fittingly accentuated her bespoke Met Gala dress with pops of emerald to seemingly represent new plant life.
Cardi B also wore a glam set with diamond and emerald chandelier earrings, a matching collar necklace, emerald rings, and a bedazzled cuff on her wrist. Her bright green nails tied into the color scheme.
The pop star went glam with her beauty, wrapping her black extensions into a beehive-inspired hairstyle that extended down the back and adding a hint of green to her smokey eyeshadow.
