The side part is side-parting.
Since debuting a bob in mid-March, Gigi Hadid has kept her styling simple, wearing her strands natural and wavy or pin straight. But at the 2024 Met Gala, the model wore her hair in a curled and romantic look.
Hadid’s bright blonde strands were curled away from her face and swept over into a deep side part—adding even more fuel to the fiery argument that the side part is back. Tonight’s look was done by Laura Polko, Hadid’s longtime hairstylist.
"This look was inspired by Marilyn Monroe," says Polko. "We wanted something classic and feminine to go with the Sleeping Beauty theme.”
Polko worked with Joico for this evening’s look: “First, I prepped Gig’s hair with Joico Defy Damage Protective Shampoo ($23) and KBOND20 Power Masque ($36),” says Polko. “I created density and volume with Joico JoiWhip Foam ($23) [and created] texture and lift at the root with Joico Body Shake ($25).”
With the product in, they blow-dried the hair with a small round brush, created a deep left side part, and added curl with hot rollers. “On the left side of the part, [I pinned] hot rollers down and away from the face,” she says. “On the top and right side, [I pinned] hot rollers on base for volume, [and] set with Joico Power Spray ($21). Once cooled, [I released] the rollers [and] finished the lengths with a one-inch curling iron.
The rest of her beauty look is clean and classic—her lips red, her cheeks rosy, her eyes gently lined, and her brows perfectly slicked. The shorter hair allows Hadid to show off some serious jewels and a corset-backed Thom Browne gown. The gown took over 5,000 hours and a team of more than 70 people to create.
