It’s so flattering.
I’m excited about a slew of summer 2024 trends, like Queen Letizia-worn slingbacks, vest tops that are the coolest tops you’ll wear all season, and anything and everything corseted. I’m not talking about Bridgerton-esque corsets, though. Instead, I’m talking about unexpected tops or dresses that incorporate said waist-snatching element in a fresh, fun way. Better yet, just take a look at Sydney Sweeney’s recent look, and you’ll get a better idea of what I mean.
Sweeney was photographed leaving her hotel on the Upper East Side ahead of the 2024 Met Gala (I can’t contain my excitement!!) looking all the things—and by that, I mean sexy, cool, comfy, daring, and stylish. Who knew it was possible to hit on all in a single look? But the actress made it happen, and with panache, too.
Sweeney went with an all-denim fit in a dark wash, which already looks 10 times chicer than its lighter counterpart. There’s just something about deep-blue denim that leans more elegant, which is why the actress’s look appears elevated even though it basically looks like she went pantless. She’s didn’t, though, as her two-piece look consists of short-shorts that peek through as she walks and a long-sleeve, shoulder-slit, corset-detail denim jacket that’s so cool, I immediately proceeded to Google all-things corset to add to my summer 2024 wardrobe.

As I mentioned before, Sweeney’s denim jacket doesn’t look like those waist-snatching corsets you’d see on Bridgerton, but it absolutely draws inspiration from the trending, flattering silhouette. It features a cinched-in waist with dramatic seam detailing that draws the eye inward. But it doesn’t end there. The jacket’s flares out into a dramatic, peplum-like hem, further adding stark contrast between the waist and the base, creating that coveted, snatched look. I’m obsessed!
I also love this idea of incorporating corset details onto denim; corsets are typically lingerie-inspired, with lots of lace and satin-like materials used, but denim, a traditionally harder material, gets instantly elevated with seam-snatching details. It’s unexpected, but it works, and it’s slightly more wearable IRL than an actual corset.
All that to say, corseted denim is destined for big things in summer 2024, which is why I went ahead and rounded up the best corset-inspired jean staples on the market right now.
