I keep one in every bag.
When I was 13, I spent two months at a summer camp in the Adirondacks. After a day of particularly intense physical activity, the inside of my thighs were bright red and burning. One of the older girls very nicely listened to me complain and said, “yeah, chub rub is the worst.” It was a momentous experience to learn that not only did it have a name, but that it was a pretty common thing, too.
Once I knew this pain and discomfort had a name, chub rub or, more officially, thigh-chafing, I could begin to look for a solution. For a while these were ad hoc; a stick of deodorant rubbed on my inner thighs or bicycle shorts worn under dresses. Then, there came a specifically formulated solution in the shape of chub rub sticks, the best of which is Megababe’s Thigh Rescue Anti-Chafe Stick.

It is not a hyperbole to say this stick changed my life. I am a big girl, I wear a size 14 to 16, and I have not worn pants since I was 15. As you can imagine, summer can be painful—all of that heat and humidity, my poor thighs become raw and sensitive. Megababe’s anti-chafe stick is my savior, though. I have two large sticks at home and I keep a mini stick in every single purse, beach, or tote bag. (I was struck with incredible panic the two times I realized I didn’t have one on me, so it’ll never happen again.)
There are similar, competitor products out there, but Megababe’s stands out. First off, although it slides on like butter, the formula is more like a balm. It’s occlusive, which is great for a product that’s purpose is to create a protective barrier. Second, although the more you move around the quicker it will come off, it lasts a long time. In fact, I spent hours walking in the sweltering Italian summer heat before needing a touchup. Third, if I (god forbid) have some existing chub rub irritation, Megababe’s formula soothes and repairs the skin with ingredients like aloe vera and grapeseed oil. Lastly, it leaves no residue and it doesn’t pill or ball up. I wish I had even a small criticism to make of Megababe’s balm,so that this review wasn’t so over-the-top positive, but I truly can’t come up with anything.
The weather is getting hot and humid, but thanks to my arsenal of a dozen Megababe Thigh Rescue Anti-Chafe Sticks, I am prepared and unafraid. Head to Amazon to shop the original, mini, and unscented versions.
