Zendaya’s ability to serve look after look shows no sign of letting up. Case in point: the vintage Vivienne Westwood set that she wore for a photo call in London to promote her new tennis flick, Challengers.
Sourced from Iconic Archive, Zendaya’s striped vest and matching miniskirt, featuring a tulle bustle at the back, is from the designer’s Café Society collection for spring 1994. In keeping with the sporty feel of the rest of the actor’s Challengers press tour wardrobe, one can easily imagine Vogue’s May 2024 cover star–with her high ponytail and new fringe–hitting the tennis court in the (somewhat impractical) look.
If the vintage get-up seems familiar to you, that’s probably because Sarah Jessica Parker’s Carrie Bradshaw famously wore the Westwood bustle miniskirt in satin green in season four of Sex and the City. Seemingly a Carrie fan, it’s not the first time Z has taken a leaf out of her style playbook. While in Rome last summer, she wore a black bandeau and low-slung beige trousers–a look that was near identical to one of the SATC star’s ’90s looks.
Of course, Zendaya and her image architect Law Roach know their fashion history. After all, this is the duo that brought Mugler’s robot suit from fall 1995 to the red carpet for the London premiere of Dune: Part Two. Happily for us, the Challengers press tour is far from over yet–meaning there’s plenty more killer looks to come. Despite Roach telling Vogue that “trying to make one look more impressive than the last would set ourselves up for disaster,” Zendaya never fails to deliver.
