They’re all available on Amazon.
As someone who has struggled with thinning hair for years, I know firsthand how overwhelming it is to sift through the thousands of growth products on the market. Many of them claim to have magical thickening results, but it’s hard to know what to believe — and what to avoid. That’s why I connected with four hair and scalp experts over email to curate a list of five products that actually work, with prices ranging from $8 to $65.
I asked trichologists Taylor Rose and Shab Caspara, as well as hair stylist Janelle Sands and cosmetologist Mika Smith, for the inside scoop on which hair growth serums, oils, and treatments are worth adding to your routine. Below, check out their top picks from brands like Living Proof, Mielle Organics, and Aunt Jackie’s, all available to shop on Amazon.

Living Proof Scalp Care Density Serum
Buy on Amazon $64
Trichologist Taylor Rose swears by the Living Proof Scalp Care Density Serum thanks to its “lightweight and fast-absorbing” formula and all-star lineup of ingredients. It’s made with antioxidants to “protect the scalp from environmental damage,” per Rose, and peptides to strengthen hair follicles. Plus, the serum works to “visibly thicken hair and reduce grays,” according to Rose, so you’ll get multiple benefits from one easy-to-use product. For the best results, the brand recommends massaging two to three drops of the product into your damp or dry scalp daily.
Mielle Organics Rosemary Mint Scalp and Hair-Strengthening Oil
Buy on Amazon $10 $9
If you’re looking for a more budget-friendly option, Rose recommends the $9 Mielle Organics Rosemary Mint Scalp and Hair-Strengthening Oil to “nourish hair follicles, smooth split ends, and help with dry scalp.” As its name suggests, the product is made with rosemary oil, which “improves scalp circulation and encourages growth,” Rose said, as well as mint and biotin for thicker and fuller locks. According to the brand, you can use the product as a concentrated scalp treatment, daily hair oil, or split end care — now that’s quite the bang for your buck.
Évolis Reverse Activator Hair Growth Treatment
Buy on Amazon $65
For trichologist Shab Caspara, the Évolis Reverse Activator Hair Growth Treatment is a go-to product. “This topical blocks out a natural protein known as FGF5, which controls hair growth by signaling hair to slow down and fall out,” she said, adding that “blocking FGF5 can achieve thicker, stronger, and healthier hair.” Plus, it’s made with keratin and wheat protein, both of which strengthen strands and improve shine. Before using the product, shake the bottle and then apply two to three drops of the serum to your scalp twice a day.
Curls Blueberry and Mint Tea Scalp Treatment
Buy on Amazon $13 $11
Janelle Sands, hair stylist and educator for the Curls brand, recommends the Blueberry and Mint Tea Scalp Treatment that’s on sale for just $11. She explained that the “onset of shedding and thinning of hair” may occur because of the “the development of DHT, which is a hormone that plays a key role in the body, yet also has the potential side effect of hair loss.” That’s why the Curls treatment is “formulated with common DHT blocking ingredients like tea tree, rosemary, and pumpkin seed oils,” she said. The product is designed specifically for natural hair and works best when applied daily, per the brand.
Aunt Jackie's Elixir Essentials Hair and Scalp Oil
Buy on Amazon $10 $8
Board-certified and licensed cosmetologist Mika Smith advises using similar hair growth ingredients, including biotin to “strengthen hair and prevent excessive hair loss,” tea tree to clarify the scalp, and rosemary to “assist with improving dry, itchy scalp” and “add moisture to the hair.” All three of these elements are included in Aunt Jackie’s Elixir Essentials Hair and Scalp Oil, which is designed to soothe the skin, thicken strands, and “moisturize textured hair,” Smith said. Not to mention, it’s on sale for just $8. The brand recommends using the product daily, especially between washes, since you don’t have to rinse it out.
