I’m wearing them to death.
It’s finally starting to look and feel like spring. Cherry blossoms are blooming! People out and about with pure joy! I’m seeing fewer and fewer Ugg boots! Bare legs (which was just me yesterday!) are roaming the streets! But, regardless of all the short hemlines I’m about to see, not to mention finally able to wear because of the rising temperatures, there’s one pant style that I refuse to give up on — and Angelina Jolie just wore it.
Jolie is a master of monochrome. When she’s spotted out, she tends to prefer one-toned hues — and for good reason. It looks so chic, every single time, especially if you go for head-to-white or head-to-black — and she just did the latter while recently out shopping in New York City. The actress went with a warmer-leaning ensemble that might not seem so spring-y in theory, but bits and pieces of her look are 100 percent suitable for the season ahead.
The actress went with a black wool coat, which, depending on the location you’re in, might still be needed in the early hours of the day. Underneath, she wore a lace-trimmed top, rounding out the look with the hero staple I wear to death: sleek black trousers that are a no-brainer 365 days a year. Trust me.

Jolie’s pair were easy and breezy, with a billowy silhouette that appeared a bit more relaxed than your regular trousers. Plus, a wider-leg is slightly more feasible for the warmer weather, as it allows for a bit more air flow, ensuring you won’t overheat in long pants. She styled her black trousers with black boots, but she could have just as easily slipped into sneakers or sandals, depending on the occasion.
I live in my black trousers year-round. In fact, I own so many, I’ve officially lost count. The once “stuffy” office staple has become a fashion-girl must-have, and whenever I don’t know what to wear — or am feeling meh about my jeans — I’ll slip into my sleek black trousers that always look good no matter how they’re styled. I wear mine with platform sneakers if I’m going more low-key, like walking around NYC, high heels for the office, or sandals for something more easygoing.
And before you say, “Eva, trousers aren’t for summer!” I say, “Yes, yes they are!” In fact, I wore my all around Italy last summer, and the late June heat was totally bearable — even in the long pants. Of course, I opted for a breezy style to combat the humidity; just pick your fabric based on the season.
