And I found seven similar options starting at $31.
For months I’ve been upgrading my spring shoe collection, slowly adding in new loafers, flats, and on-trend heels. But somehow, I managed to overlook the only shoe you actually need for the season: rain boots. Actually, saying I “overlooked” them is maybe giving myself too much grace; I more so opted not to buy any because, well, they’re ugly. Or at least that’s what I once thought, but my mind has officially been changed and it’s thanks to Irina Shayk.
The model didn’t let rain dampen her style earlier this week, both literally and figuratively. When she stepped out, she didn’t do it the way I would have — running from one covered spot to the next in sweatpants — instead, she rocked a waterproof look that maintained her cool-girl edge. She wore an oxblood-colored puffer over a graphic tee and layered leather hotpants over black tights. And on bottom, she stepped into a pair of knee-high black rain boots.
For years I thought of rain boots as those kitschy things you reach for only when you have to, but her low-key style made me realize they can actually be quite cool. So I found seven lookalikes to her black rain boots, starting at just $31.

Evshine Mid-Calf Rain Boots
Buy on Amazon $42 $31
Get her look for less with Evshine’s now-$31 rain boots. This style hits at the mid-calf, features a matte black finish as well as a silver buckle at the side. They almost look like a moto boot but have the practical elements you need for spring, aka a waterproof exterior and quick-drying interior. “They look fab, fit great, [and] get the job done,” said one fan of the boots. Another reported that their “feet stayed dry all day and didn’t hurt, even after 16 hours.”
Hunter Original High Gloss Waterproof Boot
Buy on Nordstrom $175
We can’t talk about rain boots without mentioning Hunter, the brand celebrities including Gwyneth Paltrow, Taylor Swift, and Meghan Markle wear. While the fire-engine red, forest green, and bright yellow boots might be what the brand is most known for, its super shiny black pair just got added to my wishlist. They feature a glossy finish that looks shockingly luxe, with shoppers saying that the style “looks great on” and gets them “a lot of compliments.” “These are dressy enough to wear to work in inclement weather,” said someone else about the high-gloss boots, calling them “perfect if you need a good-looking weather-proof boot.” But, just as importantly, they’re also supportive and sturdy. “They are made of an indestructible rubber that lasts forever,” said someone, while another customer wrote that the boots “are very comfortable.”
Free People High Street Rain Boots
Buy on Freepeople.com $58
While Shayk opted for knee-high boots, you can still achieve that same chic feel with something shorter. The High Street booties from Free People are available in three colors, including black. The style features a glossy finish, thick lug-sole, and small heel, a look shoppers describe as “unique,” noting that even strangers compliment them on the shoes. Another customer said that they “wanted footwear that was both practical and cute” and that “this bootie did not disappoint.” “I walked over 20,000 steps in a day…and my feet weren’t sore,” they raved.
For a long time, rain boots were the spring shoes I was reluctant to buy, but Shayk just proved the practical style can be remarkably cool. Shop more boots inspired by her look, below.
