The old-school rule of matching your shoes to your handbag still holds up.
While many of society’s so-called fashion rules have been deemed outdated (no white after Labor Day, mixing black and blue), there’s one commandment that still holds up today: matching your shoes to your handbag. And Jennifer Lopez, for one, is a devoted follower.
On Friday, the multi-hyphenate stepped out for a stylish stroll in New York City with her husband, Ben Affleck, where she showed off her excellent color-coordinating skills. For the daytime outing, J.Lo nodded to the spring season with a lilac-colored wool coat with a waist-cinching belt and black buttons down the front, and when it came time to accessorize, she decided to go full-on matchy-matchy mode.
Lopez teamed her cozy outerwear with a pair of coordinating stiletto boots in a rich wine color that was nearly identical to the shade of her croc-embossed Hermès Birkin bag. She then finished off her look with tortoiseshell sunglasses, gold hoops, and a slicked-back ponytail.

Affleck, for his part, followed his wife's fashion cue and sported a monochromatic palette of navy blue, in which he paired a double-breasted pea coat with dark-wash denim and blue-and-white Nike sneakers.
The couple are currently in the Big Apple for J.Lo's twins' spring break. Earlier this week, Lopez shared a photo of her 16-year-old daughter Emme — whom she shares with her ex-husband Marc Anthony — and a friend enjoying an ice cream on Instagram, captioning the post: "Spring break." In the sweet selfie, the "On the Floor" singer looked casual in a green jacket, oversized sunglasses, and her caramel-highlighted hair pulled back into a messy bun.
