Cameron Diaz has become a mom for the second time aged 51. The star’s musician husband, Benji Madden, confirmed in an Instagram post that the couple has welcomed a son, Cardinal Madden, adding: “We are all so happy he is here!” Cardinal is a baby brother to their four-year-old daughter, Raddix, who arrived in December 2019. Beyond sharing their names, Diaz has revealed little about her children, except to describe Raddix as “the best thing that ever happened to both Benj and I” back in 2020.
The star of There’s Something About Mary and The Mask stepped back from acting in recent years, as she concentrated on raising her little girl and expanding her organic wine venture, Avaline. However, she will be back on screens for the first time in years later in 2024, when she appears alongside Jamie Foxx in the aptly titled Netflix film, Back in Action.
Diaz is one of several stars who have chosen to expand their family later in life. Naomi Campbell memorably posed for the cover of the March 2022 issue of British Vogue with her baby daughter, who was born in 2021, when the supermodel was 50. In June 2023, she announced the arrival of her baby boy. “A true gift from God,” Campbell said at the time. “It’s never too late to become a mother.” In April last year, the Oscar-winning star of Million Dollar Baby, Hilary Swank gave birth to her twins, Aya and Ohm, at the age of 48.
