The “granny” shoe first emerged as a trend back in the mid-2010s, and its nostalgic allure was visible once more on the fall 2024 runways. We’re talking here about a very specific type of ’80s-esque silhouette, one characterized by a low heel and V-shaped toe that’s very gently rounded at the end.
Loro Piana debuted several versions in neutral tones at Milan Fashion Week (as approved by model Jasmine Tookes), while Carven’s fall 2024 offering included iterations with cut-outs, and The Row’s Almond shoes, as seen in Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s resort 2025 collection, are already a hit with fashion editors.
Model Elsa Hosk recently took some almond-toed shoes for a spin out in the wild, wearing them with a knitted Helsa Studio set and a Dior Toujours bag.
The ultimate poster girl for the style, though, is—of course—Princess Diana, who wore the divisive footwear over and over again in her early days as a royal. She favored pairs with kitten heels in brown and cream shades, while also being particularly fond of a two-toned Chanel pair in black and white.
