I’m immediately adding a pair to my cart.
Of all of spring’s possible fashion trends, what I find myself most excited for year after year is the season’s denim. After a long winter of rigid fabrics and moody dark washes, slipping into a pair of light, loose, casual jeans feels like a breath of fresh air. I’ve slowly started incorporating fresh, laid-back denim into my wardrobe, but there’s one style that’s so spring-specific, it was still on my backburner. But, with one picture, Sydney Sweeney convinced me that it’s finally time to wear them.
Over the weekend, the actress posted an outfit on Instagram that was, for me, the marker of spring’s arrival. Sweeney was dressed in head-to-toe white. On top, she paired a cropped white T-shirt with an equally short, opened button-down. The typically sophisticated, sometimes “stale” top suddenly felt casual and cool. On the bottom, she wore a pair of baggy white jeans.

I’m all for bucking fashion rules, but white pants are one of those pieces that — even if you wear them a little past Labor Day — inevitably get phased out by early October. That means that, by spring, I’m ready for their comeback, and Sweeney’s outfit reminded me of how fresh and everyday the style can be.
Her jeans combined two of my favorite denim trends — a creamy white wash with a loose, wide leg — making for a style that feels effortlessly cool. Oversized jeans were one of 2023’s biggest trends, and it looks like not much is changing in 2024. Sweeney’s style sat high and fitted on her waist before loosening up in the hips and expanding out at the leg. Take it from me, there are few silhouettes more flattering than this.
Plus, the lived-in style is easy to dress up and down; they look just as good with sneakers as they do with a pointed-toe kitten heel, while the color makes them perfect for warmer months. With no effort, the bright white instantly makes everything in your closet feel spring-ready, helping you get a little more wear from transitional pieces while perfectly complementing seasonal florals, pastels, and, of course, classic white tees.
White, wide-leg jeans are the pants I can wear spring through summer, so I’m grabbing a pair now (and thanking Sweeney for the reminder!). Shop more denim inspired by her pair, below.
