Her makeup artist was going for a “gorgeous, glowy” look.
When I apply makeup, my goal is rarely to have someone compliment my foundation and bronzer; I want people to look at my face and say, “Wow, your skin looks good.” And that’s exactly the thought that crossed my mind when I saw pictures of Demi Moore at the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party.
When the star walked across the red carpet, my eyes were — of course — drawn to her seriously sexy dress, but I also immediately noticed how flawless and glowy her skin looked. She was radiant and blemish-free without necessarily appearing like she was wearing a full face of glam. And according to her makeup artist Sil Bruinsma, that your-skin-but-better look was thanks to the makeup brand used by stars like Sarah Jessica Parker and Cameron Diaz.
Bruinsma, who is a Merit partner, used Merit’s Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Stick in the color Bisque as the base of Moore’s makeup. In an Instagram post, he said that he chose to “go for gorgeous, glowy skin” — and I’d say he definitely accomplished that.

Available in 20 shades, the brand’s complexion stick is a medium-coverage cream foundation that’s designed to blur imperfections while still offering a skin-like finish. This is in part thanks to the hydrating formula, which includes fatty acids that helps the tint “blend seamlessly” and “melt into skin” like “butter,” never creasing or clinging to dry spots or fine lines, according to shoppers. One person even said that the “forgiving formula” is so easy to work with, you can get a natural look in just 30 seconds. “No matter what your makeup skill level may be, you can look flawless and put together with minimal effort,” they raved.
And while many fans use it all over to create an even base like Bruinsma did for Moore, it’s also beloved as a concealer, with Cameron Diaz sharing on Instagram that she swears by it to spot-treat her discoloration and “blotches” that change “everyday.” And she’s not alone, with one fan writing that the Merit concealer “effortlessly covers blemishes, dark circles, and redness, leaving [their] skin flawless and natural-looking.” “I love how the applicator makes it so easy to conceal,” someone else wrote, while also gushing that they appreciated the “hydrated, glowy look” it creates.
