Hello, suede.
Nina Dobrev has been a front-row favorite for years. The former Vampire Diaries and Degrassi: The Next Generation star made a name for herself playing a variety of characters, yet it’s her polished and relatable personal style that sets her apart from other actresses whose careers took off in the early 2000s.
Last week, Dobrev jetted to Paris to attend Miu Miu’s fall/winter 2024 show, an event that saw celebs like Emma Corrin, Lorde, Sydney Sweeney, and Joey King mingling together. At Paris Fashion Week, she’s a regular. When asked how long she’s been attending, she says, “Gosh, I don’t know, maybe a decade? My favorite part is exploring Paris because, after all, the city is also a runway, and I love to use being here as an excuse to dress up a little more than usual.”
For the show, Dobrev did dress up, trading Miu Miu’s famous no-pants look for a sophisticated suede three-piece ensemble. Below, learn how Dobrev got ready for the special occasion.
Why She Loves Miu Miu
“I love how young and fresh Miu Miu feels as a brand. It’s playful yet sophisticated with an edge.”
Her Personal Style
“It's ever-evolving with my emotions. I love being comfortable as much as I love being chic, and sometimes my style conflicts with itself.”
Today’s Look
“I had a really difficult time choosing what to wear. I tried on six to seven different looks at the fitting, and each one looked better than the next. I loved them all so much and was very torn because I wanted to wear them all!
Ultimately, we ended up going with the brown suede look because it had a specific attitude to it. As soon as I put on the sunglasses, I felt like a different person. The clothes really transformed me and gave me that je ne sais quoi edge. I felt mysterious. I loved how soft the suede was, and it complimented my skin tone without washing me out. I was very caramel-y that day.”
The Accessories
“The outfit didn’t need any jewelry. My only accessories were the dark sunglasses during the day and the headband for Miu Miu’s dinner at night. And, of course, the gorgeous black Miu Miu bag, which (for once!), I could fit everything and anything I needed. It had so much room!”
The Glam
“Hung Vanngo did my makeup, and we wanted to have very clean and dewy skin, with a simple winged eye. My hairstylist Peter Lux gave me gorgeous, shiny, bouncy curls that felt effortless. We wanted everything to feel like I could have done it myself — just simple and chic.”
Her Getting-Ready Playlist
“Hip-hop. I was so sleepy because of the jetlag, and I really needed a pick-me-up, so I put on a ‘90s hip-hop playlist on Spotify to pump me up.”
The Miu Miu Show
“I loved the leggings instead of pants for a lot of the looks. They had a lot of beautiful coats that were to die for, but even the smaller details and accessories, like the slippers and the gloves. Of course, my favorite look would have to be the final black dress with the cutouts on the hip bones. This collection really has something for everyone.”
The Front Row
“The two biggest highlights were Emma Corrin and Joey King. Emma was so sweet, engaging, and wonderful. She’s so talented. I have been following her career, so it was really nice to meet her. Joey and I have a few mutual friends but got to finally hang out for the first time, and it was really wonderful to spend time with her. She’s so funny, down to earth, and cool.”
Favorite Paris Hot Spots
“We actually visited the Eiffel Tower for the first time on this trip! I went to the very top and it was incredible. The views were spectacular. It was breathtaking seeing Paris from that vantage point. I also always love going to Le Marais and hitting hole-in-the-wall boulangeries for fresh croissants in the morning.”
