All eyes were on Meghan Markle at SXSW. The Duchess graced the Austin convention today to deliver the keynote address, “Breaking Barriers, Shaping Narratives: How Women Lead On and Off the Screen,” alongside Brooke Shields and Katie Couric.
To mark the occasion, Markle wore an outfit that played with traditional workwear conventions. She donned a silk button up and matching maxi skirt from Giuliva Heritage, both printed with gray and beige pinstripes. The more masculine shirt (aptly dubbed the “Husband shirt”), which retails for $973, contrasted nicely with the flowing, feminine Lena skirt, which costs $1,050.
Markle kept accessories to a minimum. Aside from her wedding rings, she only wore a pair of chunky gold hoop earrings laden with tiny gold rings, which coordinated with the gold rock stud on her Valentino pointy-toed slides.
The Duchess of Sussex’s pinstripe-heavy outfit was perfectly in line with the workwear trends we saw during fall 2024 shows. But Markle smartly subverted the look, making it more Santa Barbara casual than work conference—while keeping it professional, of course. Forget the trousers: Meghan Markle is making a strong case for flowing skirt sets in the office.
