Kendall Jenner is the latest to hop aboard the peplum train, and dammit does she make it look good. The ever-divisive peplum has been sneaking its way back into fashion. See Florence Pugh’s pink sequined Rodarte from the Governor’s Awards, and Allison Williams and Da’Vine Joy Randolph at the Golden Globes. Now, the model is making the case.
Jenner, who has been in Paris shooting a L’Oreal campaign, went out to dinner this evening in a sultry, red hot skirt suit. The impeccably tailored jacket featured a host of dramatic touches: a fitted, corset-like bodice affixed with red buttons, a sharp collar, plunging neckline, and—of course—a draped peplum that juts out from the bottom of her waist. She emphasized the exaggerated figure with a red pencil skirt that fell just below her knee. The model kept accessories simple, wearing a pair of black rectangular shades, and a black Gucci monogrammed shoulder bag. Adding to the vampy look, she wore her hair swept up and a deep red lip.
While we can’t say for certain, Jenner’s skirt suit resembles looks from Thierry Mugler’s fall 1988 collection, dubbed “Les Infernales.” Given Jenner’s proclivity for rare vintage (including the 1988 Alaïa she wore in Paris last year), we wouldn’t be terribly surprised to learn she owns another piece of fashion history. The suiting influence fall in line with her more androgynous personal style, but the amplified proportions make for an undeniably feminine, sirenesque look from Jenner.
