"Surprise surpriseee."
Zoey Deutch is getting ready for a new role, and to usher in her latest project, the actress debuted a brand-new haircut that is making fans do a major double take.
Deutch shared a simple black-and-white photo of herself to Instagram on March 4 that featured her gazing into the camera in front of a pair of scissors and hairdresser's comb. Her previously long, brunette locks and bangs are nowhere to be seen in the photos, with a blonde pixie cut framing her face and allowing her cheekbones to pop.
"Surprise surpriseee," she captioned the picture with a fitting scissors emoji. The color is somewhat a return to form for the star, who previously rocked highlighted blonde hair back in 2022.
As it turns out, the actress’s hair change is for an upcoming role. “The hair is pretty non-negotiable for playing Jean Seberg in my opinion,” the 29-year-old explained in an interview with Vogue, confirming that she is set to star as Seberg in a yet-to-be-named Richard Linklater film. Deutch told the outlet that the late French New Wave actress was the sole inspiration for the look.
While Deutch has rocked everything from a shaved head (in Netflix's The Politician) and bleach blonde money pieces (in Not Okay), the latest update to her look, she revealed, feels liberating and even more fun than she was expecting: “I like being blonde so much more with this cut. I was surprised how unattached I felt to my hair. It’s freeing and fun.”
