She’s the queen of outfit-repeating.
When you find something that works for you, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t wear it over and over again. My wardrobe’s hero piece is a pair of perfectly tailored pleated trousers that feature a slightly oversized leg; it’s my go-to for wearing with plain white T-shirts and elevated blouses. For Cate Blanchett, that closet staple is a lustrous blue blouse that’s made both a red carpet and fashion week debut — and now, I’m convinced my wardrobe is in need of her go-to.
Earlier this week, the actress appeared at the Louis Vuitton Fall 2024 show in Paris, wearing the blouse in a way that balanced elegance and modernity. On the bottom, she slipped into a pair of pointed-toe black stilettos and matching straight-leg leather trousers that were fastened with a long, statement belt. And while the bottom half of her outfit offered cool-girl grunge, she contrasted it with a draped blouse that gave Grecian glamor thanks to its long, dramatic sleeves. Of course, I immediately realized that top was the exact same one she wore to last year’s Oscars (after all, she is the queen of outfit-repeating).
When she stepped on the red carpet just a year ago in the archival Louis Vuitton piece, she immediately became, IMO, best-dressed of the night. The blouse offered shape and sheen, and depending on the light, transformed from cerulean to an almost teal-like shade of blue.

Unsurprisingly, I felt that same amount of love when she rocked it again the other night. While her Oscars look was all elegance and glamor, this time around, she proved it’s wearable (and just as chic!) beyond white-tie events by opting to pair that draped blouse with edgy leather pants. And it firmly convinced me that my closet is missing a silk blouse.
As someone looking for pieces I can repeat-wear, I’m surprised I’d never considered the versatility of the top. The staple marries rich material with a relaxed fit, allowing it to work with equally silky skirts and trousers while elevating your favorite jeans. The movement and shape are perfect for warmer weather — a short-sleeve silk blouse, straight-leg jeans, and ballet flats are all I want to wear in the upcoming months — while Blanchette’s bold, spring-ready color choice is also something worth replicating.
Blanchette’s billowing blue silk blouse was the proof I needed to confirm that the luxe top is a versatile wardrobe staple (and that I need it!). Shop more tops inspired by her look, below.
